The Bengals have made Joe Burrow the highest-paid player in NFL history, according to sources.

Joe Burrow, the Cincinnati Bengals' franchise quarterback, reportedly received a five-year extension before the 2023 NFL season, making him the highest-paid NFL player.

Multiple reports say the five-year record deal is worth $275 million, with $219.5 million guaranteed.

Once the deal begins, that averages $55 million every season.

The Bengals are optimistic in their 2020 NFL Draft first-overall pick, Burrow, despite his calf strain in training camp.

Burrow told reporters Wednesday he was "ready to go" for 2023 and was asked about his contract. He claimed that was his least concern, but the Bengals plainly were. Burrow's agents and the Bengals have negotiated for months.

In just three years in the NFL, Burrow has become a good quarterback, reaching the Super Bowl in his sophomore year.

He won Comeback Player of the Year in 2021 after tearing his ACL and MCL in 2020, halting his debut year after 10 games.

After the Super Bowl, Burrow went 12-4 with 4,475 yards passing, 35 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 16 games, his best regular season record as a starter.

The Bengals defeated the Buffalo Bills on the road in icy conditions to reach the AFC championship game last season, but they lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in a thriller at Arrowhead Stadium.

The LSU product saved the team, which had the worst NFL record in 2019, winning only two games for the lowest amount in NFL history.
