Few people anticipated the quarterback the Las Vegas Raiders selected to replace Jimmy Garoppolo would be gone nearly five months after he signed with the team in March.
But that is the current situation after the 49ers traded Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys for a 2024 fourth-round draft pick over the weekend.
Although Garoppolo was virtually forced out of San Francisco two years ago when Lance moved there, the 31-year-old has no ill will toward the former No. 3 overall choice.
According to Garoppolo, "things didn't work out in San Francisco for whatever reason, but glad that he gets another shot, bro.
" This league is all about taking advantage of opportunities, so when one presents itself like that, you simply must do so.
Garoppolo was in the same predicament that Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is in right now as a high-priced veteran who has effectively been given a warning.
Garoppolo's five-year, $137.5 million contract, which he signed in 2018,
was about to expire, and Lance appeared to make him unnecessary.
