Proposed Trade Lands Mavericks $100 Million All-Star Center

A $100 million All-Star center is part of a new Dallas Mavericks transaction.

James Piercey of NBA Analysis Network suggested trading Tim Hardaway Jr., Josh Green, and a 2027 first-round pick to the Cavaliers for Jarrett Allen on August 27.

Piercey likes Allen with Mavericks star Luka Doncic and rookie Grant Williams.

If Evan Mobley isn't Allen's ideal frontcourt partner, who is? Piercey noted that he would thrive with a firm floor spacing 4.

Allen is a fantastic defender, so his teammate doesn't need to be Mobley-level, but it wouldn't hurt. Thus, he should thrive with Grant Williams.

“We love that pairing. Still, this is primarily about Allen and Doncic's offense connection. The two should power an outstanding pick-and-roll offense. The Mavericks want Allen for his defense first. He's a top rim protector who can survive in space.”

Allen signed a five-year, $100 million Cavaliers contract in August 2021. Last season, the Texas product averaged 14.3 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks while shooting 64.4% from the field and 73.3% from the line. Allen had 32 double-doubles in 68 games.

Allen, 25, has averaged 12.0 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks in 409 Brooklyn Nets and Cavaliers games. He'll earn $20m next season.

On June 22, Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com claimed that the Mavericks tried to acquire Allen from the Cavaliers. Cleveland refused to negotiate with Dallas.
