Morel and Bellinger Swanson connect in the third inning as the Cubs defeat the Diamondbacks 5-2.

Swanson added two hits and Kyle Hendricks pitched 5 2/3 innings to help Chicago (77-67) cling onto the second NL wild card berth and close to Milwaukee in the NL Central by three.

Sunday's 5-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks ended a three-game losing run for the Chicago Cubs as Christopher Morel,

Arizona (75-69) finished third in the wild card despite ending their four-game winning streak.

Arizona won the first three games of the series by holding the Cubs to four runs.

Bellinger added, 'I'm proud of how we came back today, bounced back. 

Overall, we had excellent swings. We performed well today to pick it up, do our part, and help the team win as an offensive.

Morel hit his 21st homer, Bellinger his 25th, and Swanson his 20th off rookie right-hander Brandon Pfaadt, who was supposed to start.

Pfaadt entered in the third as Arizona's second relief after Tory Lovullo opened with left-hander Joe Mantiply.

"Morel obviously getting us off to a good start, the home run," said Chicago manager David Ross. 

Swanson had two RBIs and Seiya Suzuki doubled in a Cubs run. Morel tripled.
