Messi scores goal in 89th minute of MLS debut as Miami defeats NY Red Bull 2-0

Lionel Messi made his debut in Major League Soccer on Saturday night, scoring a spectacular goal in the 89th 

minute to assist Inter Miami defeat the New York Red Bulls 2-0.  

This victory broke Inter Miami's winless record in the league, which had lasted 11 matches.

The seven-time winner of the Ballon d'Or entered the game in the 60th minute 48 years after Pelé 

joined the New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League in a bid to kickstart 

soccer in the United States. Pelé had joined the New York Cosmos in 1968.

Jordi Alba performed a spectacular jump in order to blindly center Sergio Busquet's cross back ball to Lionel Messi. 

The 36-year-old superstar easily dribbled past three opponents before passing the ball on to Benjamin Cremaschi with a side-foot pass.
