Ex-Cowboys WR Signs with Colts in Free Agency

A former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver has signed in free agency with the Indianapolis Colts as they prepare for their second preseason game. This past offseason, Dallas waved farewell to WR James Washington before bringing in a new headline receiving option in Brandin Cooks.

Anyone who followed the Cowboys last season knows that Washington, despite being a native of Texas, had a disappointing year in Dallas.

After being released by the New Orleans Saints, he appears to be getting a second opportunity with the Indianapolis Colts.

The Colts revealed the roster change on August 18 via their various social media channels, including X.

"We have signed WR James Washington, placed DE Genard Avery on injured reserve, and waived WR Malik Turner," the team's Twitter account stated.

From the standpoint of the Cowboys, the fact that one former Dallas WR is taking the roster position of another in Indianapolis is intriguing.

Malik Turner played for the Cowboys in 2020 and 2021 before bouncing around free agency for the next year or so in pursuit of a roster position.

The trade returns Washington to the AFC and pairs him with Indy's rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson.
