Ex-Cowboys WR Back on Market After Being Released by Saints

The Dallas Cowboys appear to be set at wide receiver, but one of their former weapons is available in free agency after being released by the New Orleans Saints.

It is yet another departure for James Washington, who has battled to establish consistent ground over the last two years.

The Saints announced Washington's release on August 15th, along with the acquisition of running back Darrel Williams.

"The New Orleans Saints announced today that they have signed free agent running back Darrel Williams and have terminated the contract of wide receiver James Washington," according to the team's official website.

Washington joined the Saints in free agency this summer after a poor year with the Cowboys and then the New York Giants in 2022.

The former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver has yet to find a long-term home after leaving the organization, and it appears he will have to keep looking after getting dismissed mid-training camp.

There's little doubt that Washington can play in the NFL, but a rocky end to his Steelers tenure, time with the Cowboys, and now being released by the Saints make it feel like it's been a long time since his value has been climbing rather than declining.

Washington made an immediate impression with Pittsburgh at the start of his NFL career. Washington became a crucial weapon for the Steelers in 2019 after being picked in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft and playing a minor part in his debut season.
