Ex-Cowboys Pro Bowler Released by Saints in ‘Surprise’ Move: Report

Jaylon Smith, a former Dallas Cowboys linebacker, is a free agent once more.

The New Orleans Saints have released the 28-year-old veteran, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

"The Saints are releasing veteran LB Jaylon Smith, according to a source, though he has a good chance to return to the practice squad," Rapoport reports. "He'll have other options, too."

The former second-round draft pick joined with the Saints earlier this month, just in time for the preseason. According to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans. 

football, the move is a "surprise" given how well Smith performed during training camp.

"Saints are releasing LB Jaylon Smith, per source," reports Underhill. "A surprise given how well he performed in camp." I doubt he gets very far."

While Smith impressed during training camp, Pro Football Rumors' Sam Robinson has a reasonable explanation
