Coco Gauff discusses US Open prayer: 'I was just thanking you.'

Coco Gauff prayed after defeating Aryna Sabalenka in a three-set thriller at the US candid Saturday night and went viral for being candid about her faith.

On Monday, Gauff discussed her reflection on NBC's "Today".

I was just saying thank you, and I understood all the tough times were just to make that moment even sweeter," said the 19-year-old tennis prospect.

"I think if it came easy, I wouldn't be as appreciative as I was then."

When asked what it meant to win the first Grand Slam title on home soil, Gauff discussed her beliefs.

My gosh. I cherish it. Currently, I'm in shock "Gauff. "My French Open loss broke my heart. I realized God gives you trials.

 This makes this moment sweeter than I expected."No prayers for results. Just give me the strength to give my all. Happens whatsoever.

Since Serena Williams won the US Open at 19 in 2001, she is the youngest American winner. Williams also won at 17 two years prior. 

Gauff, Williams, and Tracy Austin are the only American adolescents to win the tournament.
