As the regular season approaches, the Cleveland Browns continue to make periphery personnel moves, the most recent of which involves a reunion with one of their former defensive backs.
Cleveland released cornerback A.J. Green III in late August as it reduced its roster to 53 players. Green was reinstated to the Browns' practice squad on Friday, September 1.
"The Browns have signed CB A.J. Green III to the practice squad," the team's official website says. "Green was originally signed as an undrafted
free agent by the Browns in 2020 and has appeared in 31 career games with two starts for the team."
Green is back on the Cleveland practice squad, where he began his career three years ago. While largely employed on special teams,
the cornerback has made important contributions to the defense over the last two seasons.
Green played 141 defensive snaps in 2022, compared to 221 special teams snaps, according to Pro Football Reference.
He appeared in all 17 regular-season games for the team. Green played 176 defensive snaps and 189 special teams snaps in 12 appearances in 2021.
