The Denver Broncos are still putting the finishing touches on their 53-man roster for the 2023 season.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Broncos made a deal with the New Orleans Saints on August 29, moving veteran kicker Wil Lutz to Denver.
The Saints will receive a seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft in exchange for Lutz, according to Mike Klis of 9News.
The Broncos have a battle going on during training camp between veteran kicker Brett Maher and Elliot Fry.
Fry was released by the Broncos following the first preseason game of the season after suffering a lower body injury that was not considered significant.
Denver did not bring in another kicker to compete with Maher, but it didn't appear to matter in the final days of trimming the regular-season roster.
Since the Broncos signed Lutz, they released Maher, who will have several alternatives moving forward after so many kickers were traded after the final preseason game.
Lutz signed with the Baltimore Ravens in May after going undrafted in 2016, but was released three months later.
