Breakout Fantasy Football Pickups After Opening Day in Week 2

NFL Week 1 was full with surprises, as usual for the first weekend of every football season.

The Detroit Lions barely beat the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in their home in Week 1, but they only got one point.

The Cleveland Browns' 24-3 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, another Super Bowl contender, was unexpected.

In fantasy, some surprise players topped the stat sheet this week.

As you make your first waiver claims of the 2023-24 season, we'll list some breakout players to consider before Week 2.

We consider players "breakouts" if they were rostered in less than 50% of leagues on Sunday.

After his Week 1 performance, Carolina Panthers tight end Hayden Hurst's situational awareness is reasonable to question.

Hurst caught Panthers rookie quarterback Bryce Young's first NFL touchdown pass and threw it into the stands.

Rewatching the touchdown, you can't help but admire Hurst's footwork to keep it in play.

He taps his foot into the end zone and brings the ball over the plane before stepping out of bounds after breaking the tackle.
