Baker Mayfield considers $12 million lawsuit “a long time coming”

On Tuesday, Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield met with reporters for the first time since: (1) he was designated the Week One starter;

and (2) news of a court action filed on his behalf to determine the whereabouts of $12 million in after-tax earnings surfaced.

He was questioned if the latest case, which demands accounting from an investment firm where several family members work, is a distraction for him.

"I'll say this," Mayfield replied, "that has been a long time coming."

I'm not going to get into specifics, but I've been dealing with that things for years. So I'm in a much better mental state. So, yeah, we're all set."

Mayfield is set to earn $4 million this year, with incentives worth up to $4.5 million.

More crucially, a great year in 2023 might position him to make enough money to more than make up for the lost $12 million.
